Roger's Outdoor Notes
CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT FOR KIDS. Woodland Dunes Nature Center is hosting a Christmas Bird Count for kids on Saturday Dec. 17th from 9am to 11:30am . Cost is $2.00 per child and registration is required by Dec. 14th. Bird guides and ornaments included in the fee. Children ages 8 and up will learn birding basics at binocular-boot-camp, followed by a friendly morning of counting birds for the National Audubon Society's 117th Christmas Bird Count. Small groups led by experienced birders will walk a trail, document bird species and tabulate results. Dress for the weather. Free bird guides will be available for all children who participate in this group. Kids ages 4-7 will participate in the Budding Birders program while their older siblings are on the trail. They'll learn about birds and help decorate a tree for them. They'll also make a bird feeder/ornament that they can take and hang at home. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For more information or to register, please call Woodland Dunes at 920-793-4007.
