Understand How to Enhance Your Beach and
Lawn at Free Program
Manitowoc, Wis. -- The public is invited
to a free presentation, Safe Lawns &
Safe Beaches, Monday, March 20, Wisconsin Maritime Museum, 6-8 p.m., 75
Maritime Drive, Manitowoc.
Jacksonport resident
Pat Fitzgerald initiated the working group ‘Safe Lawns in Door County’ to create
awareness about the environmental health risks posed by traditional lawn care
practices and present viable landscape options to enhance lawn habitat health
for people, pets and air and water quality. He will identify health risks from
synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, explore ‘best practices’ alternatives
including organic lawns, use of native plants and yardscapes, and recommend
resources to assist participants in improving the health of their yard,
neighborhood and community.
Manitowoc native
Kimberly Busse, now at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, serves as Great
Lakes Beach Association president. She will present information to help
participants understand and enhance beach health, what’s currently being done
to protect beaches, and how to keep them safe and clean.
This program is
hosted by the Friends of the Manitowoc River Watershed, Lakeshore Natural
Resource Partnership, and Wisconsin Maritime Museum. For more information,
