Northeast Wisconsin Woodland Owners Conference Registration Deadline January 24th  

Green Bay, WI – Glacierland Resource Conservation & Development Council is accepting registrations for the 2018 Northeast Wisconsin Woodland Owners Conference through January 24th.  The Conference will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay.  The Woodland Owners Conference will feature speakers focusing on topics of interest to private woodland owners.  Topics include: “Bird Friendly Forests”, Certification”, “Forest Health Concerns”, “Emerald Ash Borer”, and “Log-A-Load for Kids”.   
Gordy Mouw of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) will kick off the conference with “The Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Woodland Owners.”  Gordy works with the SFI community to leverage the work of SFI Implementation Committees across the U.S. and Canada. His career in forest certification began in 2004 and includes experience on both sides of the border. He led certification efforts that implemented chain-ofcustody, fiber sourcing and forest management certifications at Stora Enso, NewPage and Verso. Gordy has served on 11 different SFI Implementation Committees throughout the Great Lakes region, the U.S. East Coast and Southeast.  
Erin Giese will follow with “Managing for Healthier, Bird-Friendly Forests.” Erin is the Senior Research Specialist at UW-Green Bay’s Cofrin Center for Biodiversity. Over the past six years, Erin has been managing the Cofrin Center’s data collections and coordinating and conducting research for the Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Monitoring Program, WI Breeding Bird Atlas II, Christmas Bird Count, Nicolet National Forest, Lower Green Bay & Fox River Area of Concern, and other efforts. She works with students, agencies, non-profits, among others and is the President of the Board of Directors for the Northeastern WI Audubon Chapter.  
Linda Williams, WDNR Forest Health Specialist for Northeastern Wisconsin, will present “Forest Health Update/ EAB Concerns.”  Linda works with foresters and landowners to diagnose forest health problems from insect and disease issues to abiotic issues like weather and storm damage.  She has been with the Wisconsin DNR for 18 years. 
Greg Edge, a Forest Ecologist/Silviculturist for the WDNR, will present “EAB and the Private Woodland Owner—What You Need to Know.”  Greg works in the Division of Forestry, working on statewide silviculture and forest management issues. He has been involved in the development of Wisconsin’s Forest Management Guidelines for Emerald Ash Borer and in the creation of a stand assessment/decision tool for field foresters writing silvicultural prescriptions for lowland ash stands. 
Scott Lyon, Forest Products Specialist with the WI DNR, will present “Ash Wood Markets - Impact of EAB on Wisconsin's Wood Industry.”  Scott provides assistance to support and grow Wisconsin’s forest products industry, and is located in Green Bay.   He has both sales and production experience of wood products.  
Steve Kaufman, the DNR Forester covering Brown County, Outagamie County, and Navarino Wildlife Area, 
will present “Log-a-Load Event for Kids.”   Steve's job entails managing state lands, National Forest lands, and assisting private landowners.
