Workshop to Address How to Communicate
About Climate Change
We are witnessing significant
changes in weather patterns all over the globe and in the U.S., from hurricanes
in the South and East, to droughts and devastating fires in the West, to
50-degree January days here in Wisconsin. Is this unusual or extreme weather
related to climate change? More importantly, how can we prepare for these
changes in our communities?
How can we communicate
constructively about this important issue with those who are skeptics? Katie
Krouse, coordinator of the Climate Change Coalition of Door County, will
present a free workshop at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, 75 Maritime Drive,
Manitowoc, on Saturday, February 17, from 1-3 p.m., offering tips for
initiating and continuing those conversations.
“It is important for people to have
these conversations, difficult as they are,” Krouse said. “The problem is we
often don’t know how to go
about it. This workshop will help people gain confidence in communicating about
climate change with others.”
Krouse believes that individuals
have the ability, and the authority, to communicate with their peers to help
find ways to work together to make necessary change. Those who attend this
workshop will learn ways to discuss climate change in a positive and effective
manner. They will walk away with important tools to make a genuine difference
in their communities.
Krouse has served as coordinator of
the Climate Change organization since 2016. They seek to transcend partisanship
and “to foster knowledge and action to address the challenges of climate change
and protect the Earth for future generations.” They sponsor educational
workshops, community events and host an annual forum every May. They also
sponsor a monthly column in the Peninsula
Pulse.
“Effective Communication in the
Face of Skepticism” is co-sponsored by the Climate Change Coalition of Door
County, Friends of the Manitowoc River Watershed, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum
and the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership.
