When you
first joined the NRA, you took an important step to ensure our unique
American freedoms survive today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
And I'm
grateful for your strong membership commitment.
Make no
mistake. This is the campaign fight of our lives.
Seventeen
months ago, when we won a historic election battle and defeated Hillary
Clinton, we kicked over
a hornet's nest.
Our
anti-gun opponents are now filled with an unbridled hatred of everything we stand
for. Not only our guns. They hate our freedom. They hate our patriotism. They
even hate our flag.
And right
now, their out-of-control hatred is being harnessed by an anti-gun campaign
machine unlike anything we've seen in our lifetime.
In the
time since Hillary Clinton's defeat, the gun-ban lobby has transformed itself
into a massive, national political operation that now has the ability to
single-handedly tip the scales in nearly every election.
They have
an army of anti-gun strategists sifting through daily poll numbers and
scheming the best way to push their gun-ban propaganda on the American
people.
They're
producing slick TV ads in Hollywood studios and recruiting high-profile
celebrities to make their case.
They're
building political profiles of millions of swing voters in preparation for a
massive Get-Out-The-Vote drive that could overwhelm us at the polls on
Election Day.
And
they've got a nearly unlimited supply of money from elitist billionaires like
Michael Bloomberg and George Soros - who can write million dollar checks just
as easily as you or I can buy a cup of coffee.
Last
November, in Virginia's off-year elections, the gun-banners put their new
campaign machine to the test.
The
result: They not only installed anti-gun politicians in the governorship, the
lieutenant governorship, and the attorney general's office, but they also
defeated scores of pro-gun state legislators that just a couple of years ago
were considered unbeatable.
Now they're
planning to roll out this same strategy in campaigns all across America.
You and I
have won big elections against long odds before. But we won't win in 2018
without your personal
commitment as a NRA-ILA Sustaining Member.
In my
more than 20 years fighting with NRA-ILA to defend the Second Amendment, I
can tell you we've never faced a more dangerous mid-term election battle than
the one we face today.
If our
anti-gun opponents install gun-ban majorities in the U.S. House and Senate
this year, they will put themselves in prime position to seize the White
House in 2020 and rip the Second Amendment out of the Constitution forever.
That's
what I mean when I say EVERYTHING
you and I believe in is on the line this November.
You and I
have been fighting in the trenches together for years. We've fought
side-by-side in massive legislative brawls, in freedom-defining court
battles, and in election fights that no one thought we could win.
Inch by
inch, yard by yard, we've gained precious ground for freedom. Week after
week, year after year, we've never let up.
The
outcome of this year's mid-term election is going to shape the future of our
gun rights for years and decades to come.
There's
never been a more important time for you to be a NRA-ILA Sustaining Member. So please, let me hear from you right now.
On behalf
of everyone here at NRA-ILA, thank you in advance for your leadership at this
most critical time in our nation's history.
Sincerely,
Chris W.

YOUR SUPPORT AND HELP IS NEEDED TO FIGHT THE ANTI'S WHO LIE OVER AND OVER
FIRE WARNING, RED FLAG WARNING, PLEASE BE CAREFUL
NEWS RELEASE
Continued Red Flag Warning in 7 counties
DATE: April 30, 2018CONTACT: Catherine Koele, Wildfire Prevention Specialist, 715-356-5211 x208 (office), 608-219-9075 (cell)
MADISON - On the heels of the busiest fire day of the year, the Department of Natural Resources in conjunction with the National Weather Service has for the second day in a row issued a Red Flag Warning for today, Monday, April 30 until 7 p.m. for the following seven counties: Jackson, Trempealeau, Juneau, Monroe, Clark, La Crosse and Adams.
As a result, the Wisconsin DNR is moving to extreme fire danger in those counties and will be prohibiting burning with DNR-issued burning permits and is asking the public to be especially careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildland fire. Campfires, ashes from fireplaces, outdoor grills, smoking, chainsaws, off-road vehicles or other small engines have the potential to throw a spark, ignite a fire and spread quickly. Please use extreme caution until the fire weather improves.
A Red Flag Warning is issued when a variety of weather factors come together to create especially dangerous wildland fire conditions. Warm temperatures, low humidity, gusty winds and exceptionally dry fuels are anticipated and can result in catastrophic fires.
The DNR responded to 43 wildfires Sunday, April 29. The contracted tanker planes responded to two larger fires in steep terrain in Clark county and made several successful drops. The Bruce Mound fire burned 89 acres. The Sand Fire burned 34 acres. No injuries and no structures lost. Mopping up operations will continue today and both fires are still under investigation.
Much of the state continues to be high to extreme fire danger and the areas where the DNR sets burning restrictions are expected to suspend burning permits today until conditions improve. Search the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov, for keyword "fire" to continue to monitor the current fire danger and any burning restrictions.
WHO SAYS YOU ARE TO YOUNG TO KILL TURKEYS, CONGRATULATIONS YOUNG MAN
Ohio Hunter Takes His
First Bird
From the stats we saw in last
Friday’s edition of the wire, Ohio turkey hunters are having a very good start
to the spring season, harvesting more than 3,300 wild turkeys on opening day.
In itself, that’s good news for hunting.
But the better news is that there
are young hunters taking to those fields. And we have indisputable proof. Yep,
photographic evidence to show that young hunters do exist
-and are harvesting animals.
We received these photos last
week from our contacts at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. We loved
‘em, but were cautious about sharing them because of the hate messages
frequently received by hunters after they post their hunting images on social
media.
Having been reassured by our
contacts that it’s OK with his proud papa, Nick, we’re more than pleased to
share these photos of five-year-old Luke Turner and his first turkey. If you’ll
look closely at the second shot, you’ll notice he took his first gobbler (with
a 9.75 inch beard and 5/8 inch spurs no less) with a single shot shotgun.
Nice work, Luke.
It’s normal to see a photo of a
proud hunter posed with his harvest (top), but it’s not often you see a hunter
that’s nearly the same size as his game (below). Five-year-old Luke Turner of
Bowerston, Ohio has reason to be proud of his first turkey. Photos with
permission.

OH, THE MEMORIES OF OUR YOUTH WITH A .22 RIFLE. HOW ABOUT YOU ?
SUNDAY GUNDAY: 7 REASONS WHY WE LOVE THE .22 LONG RIFLE CARTRIDGE
What is there not to love about the .22 long rifle cartridge?
This handy cartridge has many merits that just can’t be overlooked.
We love the .22 long rifle cartridge, and here is why.
1. Hunting small game
The .22 long rifle cartridge is the Goldilocks of small game cartridges. The loads generally do not tear up edible meat, but still put down critters with enough authority.
2. Protect your livestock or crops from pests
More pests drop across the country every year by shooters armed with a .22 caliber rifle or pistol than any other. When the chickens are squawking because the predators are eating their eggs, grab that .22 rifle on the way out the door. It’s judgement day.
3. Low noise and recoil make this cartridge a plinking delight
Many of us spend hours brushing up on shooting skills with the .22 long rifle cartridge. When shot (especially from a rifle length barrel), noise is less than most other calibers. Tin cans and other impromptu targets are a great way to burn up those bulk pack ammo boxes.
4. Teach a kid to shoot
Many of us used a .22 caliber rifle to fire our first gun. Trained by adults who knew their stuff, we became keen-eyed shooters because of the easy to shoot cartridge.
5. Cost of .22 long rifle ammunition still is cheaper than others
For most shooters, the .22 long rifle cartridge is the cheapest way to shoot. They’re often available in bulk, too.
6. Wide variety of different types of .22 long rifle ammunition
For most .22 long rifle caliber firearms, .22 shorts and .22 longs can be used (if allowed by the manufacturer). This allows really quiet shooting with CCI CB’s and hot fast cartridges like the CCI Velocitors. Choose your flavor for your task.
7. There’s history in the great .22 long rifle cartridge
When J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company debuted the cartridge way back in 1887, they were ahead of the times. What other cartridge is so widely used of that age than the .22 rimfire cartridge? That certainly is a testament to just how useful and popular the .22 long rifle cartridge has been.
Long live the incredible .22 long rifle cartridge!

The year is 1996.
The Right to Carry movement is building momentum across the United States
after violent crime peaked in the early 1990s. Criminologists Gary Kleck and
Marc Gertz just published a study estimating that 2.5 million Americans used
a firearm to defend themselves against another person in 1993. Gun-control
advocates scoff at the number, though Kleck refutes the criticisms levied at
his work.
