President Donald Trump said Sunday he was still deliberating his decision on a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy as his self-imposed deadline for an announcement neared amid furious lobbying and frenzied speculation.


In a sparsely decorated “war room” next to the West Wing on the White House grounds, Trump administration officials have been preparing for the president’s Supreme Court pick with an anything-can-happen approach to the historic task.


Hundreds of people took over a major Chicago highway Saturday, shutting down all northbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 94 — better known locally as the Dan Ryan Expressway — to protest gun violence in the city.


Only once during his remarks did he briefly mention his appointment as the new president of the National Rifle Association, a position that has drawn criticism from gun opponents, including protesters who carried signs and chanted slogans denouncing North while marching outside the Tabernacle.


In the weeks and months since the school shootings in Parkland, Florida, and Santa Fe, Texas, the debate over whether teachers should be able to carry firearms in schools has received a great deal of attention. A number of states have allowed teachers to carry firearms in schools for years and provide some insight into how such programs work in practice and what motivates teachers who want to be armed.
