Gun owner groups
filed a lawsuit Wednesday against state Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra, alleging
that state computer crashes prevented California owners of assault weapons
from registering them by a June 30 deadline, after which they were required
to dispose of the firearms.

|
Kavanaugh’s respect
for legislators’ prerogatives does not mean he is shy about checking them
when they overstep their constitutional limits. In 2011 he dissented from a
decision upholding the District of Columbia’s “haphazard” ban on an arbitrary
subset of semi-automatic rifles, which he correctly recognized as a violation
of the same Second Amendment right that protects possession of handguns.

Thousands of gun
owners statewide now find themselves on the wrong side of the law, despite
their good-faith efforts to comply with a new state law.

congressional candidate in New York state said she supports a ban on some
firearms, but admitted that she will never say so in public out of fear of
losing the election.

A federal appeals
court heard arguments Wednesday from lawyers for three University of Texas
professors who are challenging the state's law allowing concealed handguns on
college campuses.

On Monday, the
California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms (“CA DOJ”) officially
withdrew the proposed regulations that would have expanded the improperly
adopted “assault weapon” definitions, to apply in all circumstances. This
withdrawal comes after NRA and CRPA’s joint opposition letter, and the
day before the Office of Administrative Law’s deadline to render a decision.
