Dem Gubernatorial Candidate Suggests Banning AR-15s Is Not Enough After Shooting: We Have to Look at Shotguns

Ben Jealous, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Maryland, said banning firearms like the AR-15 may not be enough to stop shootings. He said it's time to look at shotguns following the shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper office in Annapolis.
The shooter used a shotgun to kill five staff members of the newspaper.
“We will, in the next [Maryland] legislative session, have to have a real conversation about how we finish the job here of our assault weapons ban,” Jealous said. “But we have to go much further. Journalists were killed with a shotgun.”

Jealous had called to close the state's “AR-15 loophole” in March:
Maryland's gun laws are relatively strict when compared to other states.
To own a handgun in the state, you have to have a permit to purchase it, register the handgun, and must get a permit to conceal carry.
Maryland also has an “assault weapons” ban on firearms like the AR-15, AK-47, and large-capacity magazines that was enacted after the 2012 school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
