Roger's Outdoor Notes

Well, a lot has been going on in the outdoors and I have been out of town attending the NRA Annual Meetings in Louisville last weekend. I’m enclosing a few photos for you to see what and why you should be a member of the NRA. I found they are doing more for education of firearms than any other organization or the government for women and children. You always hear the bad mouthing of the NRA by the Democrats and Clinton, but if you were there, you really would have heard a totally different story and seen the work they are doing towards the education side.  This year the Remington company is celebrating their 200th anniversary and they are now coming out with youth models in shotguns and rifles. On Sunday was the Youth day and the children were given special programs and treatments at many of the booths. I also found something very interesting called TI and it’s a shooting range in a tent. It can be used for police, DNR, Hunter Education, and plain target shooting. It rents out at $45.00 per hour if someone would like to rent it out. In three more years, the NRA show will be back in our Mid-West in Indiana again. You have to see this show, over 800 booths of everything you can use in the outdoors or at home.

145th NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits - Thursday

We have arrived in Louisville for the much anticipated 145th NRA Convention. Many are looking forward to the appearance of presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. He along with Kentucky Governor Matt Blevin, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Congressman Trey Gowdy, and other friends of the 2nd amendment are scheduled to speak at the NRA's annual Institute for Legislative Action forum tomorrow.

Ahead of Trump's speech to the NRA crowd, Hillary and her New York Times cronies have gone on the attack with their predictable anti-gun rhetoric in a piece entitled Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton Set for Clash on Gun Control. The local news has been covering both the NRA and anti-Trump/anti-gun groups with hints of organized demonstrations like those during his last visit to Louisville

FISHING NEWS:  NEWGLSF General Membership meeting and fish boil and swap meet will be held on Thursday May 19th starting at 730pm at City Limits. The meeting will have Chuck Bronte or the US Fish & Wildlife Service Senior Fishery Biologist speak about the current state of Lake Trout program and clear up some misconceptions. With the Salmon fishery apparently in decline, the May 19th meeting will focus on the lake trout. This meeting will also include the spring swap meet, the drawing for a Flat Screen TV attendance prize, monthly raffle and lunch.  Last year’s Salmon Derby showed increased numbers of Lake Trout being registered so fishermen may want to refresh Lake Trout skills.  Also remember the NEWGLSF WILL ALSO RUN THE 2016 Lake Wide Fishing Tournament FREE for all club members. 333 Tournament Trail will again be coming to the Lakeshore. Manitowoc/Two Rivers fishermen will be able to depart and weighin their catch at Manitowoc for the 2 Sheboygan 333 Tournament Trail fishing tournaments. The dates are as follows: Sheboygan Salmon Cup is June 11 & 12th and the Miesfeld’s Super Salmon Weekend is August 20 & 21th. Check website for more information.
