Reminder of the MCLA
meeting and candidates forum; pleas plan to attend. Unlike previous forums we
want the candidates to speak to natural resource issues.
The County Executive is
responsible for the following County functions and it's important they
understand their role in County Government.
- County collects boater donations at each launch that needs to be
accountable and ear marked for functions at your public Lake access
- County implements a Manure spreading ordinance that regulated farm
expansions over 500 animal units and restrict manure application within
1000 feet of a lake ,300ft. of stream and in watershed of a sink hole.
They also have the requirement that Producers have and implement
Nutrient Management Plans.
- County sponsors watershed projects and initiatives to control
non-point pollution.
- County implements and enforces that Shore-land Zoning
ordinances that control development and runoff from impervious
surfaces and protection of the natural shore-land zone.
- County owns the Lake access as a County Park, they are
responsible for picking up the garbage, signage at the boat launch
and installation of the Boat cleaning stations. Maitain and clean
rest room facilities and fishing piers.
- County Law enforcement has the authority to stop boaters with
invasive species and plants on their trailers on roadways. The also have
citation authority for baiting and feeding of deer in the county.
- County Highway department is responsible for controlling
invasive species on County Right-of-ways.
- County could take on a role of Aquatic Species education that was
previously conducted by MCLA.
- County is responsible for land use planning to protect our watersheds.
