FISHING REPORT FROM 7-14-16 DNR REPORT:  Along Lake Michigan pier fishing picked up at Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Sheboygan, Port Washington, Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha, with chinook salmon, coho, brown trout all being caught. Perch action was also on the rise at Milwaukee. Out on the lake, trolling success was down some this week but some boats were still hitting their limits in just a few hours, with mostly chinooks were being caught but also many coho and a few rainbows. Lake Michigan anglers asked to aid chinook salmon and lake trout research. With reports of great salmon and trout fishing this summer in Wisconsin ports up and down LAKE MICHIGAN, the DNR is encouraging anglers to aid critical fisheries research by donating the heads of fish they harvest. Mid-summer is an important time for data collection because salmon from throughout Lake Michigan and parts of Lake Huron travel to WI’s shores to take advantage of the alewives gathered here. The tags in the snouts of the stocked chinook salmon and lake trout tell us when and where the fish were stocked plus other valuable information. Only harvested fish missing the small back top fin, known as the adipose fin, are being sought, because the missing fin is a sign that the fish likely received a tag in its snout. Collection locations for the heads of these fish are listed on the website for the DNR and Two Rivers it’s Seagull Marina next door to McDonalds.

Comment period remains open, background information posted on Lake Michigan fisheries issues, at dnr.wi.gov and searching “Lake Michigan salmon and trout meetings.” The deadline period ends on July 31st. Wildlife artists have until July 22 to enter Wild Turkey, Pheasant and Waterfowl Stamp Design Contest. The submission deadline for the 2017 Stamp Design contest is drawing near. Artists have until July 22 to submit their artwork for judging , which will take place in a closed session on July 28th. The top three pieces of artwork for each stamp will be displayed at the 2016 Wis. State Fair from August 4-14.

Bear Hounds Killed in Douglas and Sawyer Counties:  On July 9th, Wildlife Services confirmed the WOLVES depredated bear hounds in Douglas and Sawyer Counties. One hound was a male Black & Tan hound killed in the Town of Gordon, Douglas County, and the other one was a seven year old female Walker hound which was killed in the Town of Winter, Sawyer County. Hunters are cautioned to use the maps on the DNR website during these training periods.

38th Annual Two Rivers Fish Derby will be held on July 15-16-17, 2016 and it’s looking like it will be a banner year for fishing. For over 37 years this derby has been held with over $45,000 in cash and prizes being offered. Derby Headquarters is at Walsh Field with a great line up of entertainment and food for everyone. Friday fish must be registered from 9am to 10pm, Saturday 9am to 10pm and Sunday from 9am to 12pm. Registration closes at 12pm Sunday.  Good Luck to all fishermen.

Across this great country the Dept. of Natural Resources are making fishing equipment available to youth for free to try out fishing as a way to see if they would be interested in doing something wild. Today’s youth are spending too much time behind a computer screen and not getting outside like many of us. It would be nice to see or even hear of a program that will make kids get up off the sofa and go outside to enjoy the great outdoors, even if you do live in a city. Libraries offer many wonderful opportunities for the youth to see and enjoy what life is like outdoors by looking at videos or reading about it. Parents need to find a way to get their kids outside instead of buying them more toys to sit on their behind. So with that being said, grab the kids and go down to the many derbies across the state and show your children what it’s like to catch fish and enjoy the outdoors.

The draft 2016 plank marks a significant shift in the party’s approach to the issue.  The Myth of “Declining “ Gun Ownershp is just that, Americans are buying guns at an unprecedented rate and have been doing so for some time. Gun Control supporters want politicians to believe that it is, on the theory that politicians are more likely to vote for restrictions if they think that opponents of restrictions are in the minority. Democrats Launch another Protest over Guns on the House Floor, and it seems they are more interested in taking away more of your rights then try to help this country get back on its feet. Signatures submitted in plan to RESTRICT guns in Washington with initiative 1491, backed by Alliance for Gun Responsibility, comes after legislative efforts to create “extreme risk” protection orders failed earlier this year. In Arizona: Tucson City Council bans sale of popular semi-automatic firearms at convention center and any weapon capable of firing 10 or more rounds can no longer be sold at the Tucson Convention Center. The Tucson City Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to add more restrictions on private gun sales at the city-owned venue.  GUN PURCHASES Continue to SOAR, and you can thank the Democrats for that with Americans not taking to Hillary Clinton’s sour attitude towards guns. Maybe they’re arming themselves out of concern about terrorists and criminals of a more conventional stripe. And maybe they’re showing what they think of members of Congress who use terrorists’ crimes as the excuse to push for more gun control.

VIKING BOW AND GUN CLUB’S Fall Hunter Education classes start on August 1st with orientation. The rest of the classes are Aug. 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18 and 20th which is testing. All students must pre-register with Jeff Lyon at 920-797-9307. NO REGISTRATION will be taken after July 22nd. The classes are open to the Public.

WESTSHORE SPORTSMAN’S CLUB, 11267 Lakeshore Road, Two Rivers, WI will hold its Fall Hunter Education classes starting with orientation on August 31st. The remaining classes are Sept. 7, 10, 12, and 14th.  The weekday classes run from 6pm to 9pm and the Saturday class Sept. 10 is from 8am to Noon.  Pre-registration is required by calling either Mike Casebeer at 920-553-1255 or Brad Blaha at 920-794-1568.
