Roger's Outdoor Notes

FISHING NEWS:   From the DNR report comes the following news. The FREE FISHING WEEKEND is still on, but just use caution wherever you decide to go ice fishing. A number of events have been cancelled due to deteriorating ice conditions, many others will go on as planned. Anglers out on inland lakes continue to report mixed bag of crappies, walleyes and perch. Perch are being taken on Shawano Lake ( drove past it on Wednesday and the lake was packed with fishermen all around the lake.) and anglers on Lake Altoona were catching nice sized panfish. Ice conditions on Green bay can be treacherous due to the large cracks that opened up last week, and ice has been broken up and re froze, making entry onto the Bay difficult in places. There are reports of cars and ATV’s going through the ice in places, so please be sure to check with the locals about the conditions on the Bay or any lake. Anglers at Voyageur Park report catching a mixed bag of walleye, perch, white fish, and white bass. Anglers were having some success at Stone Quarry for White Fish and at Volk’s landing for white fish and perch.
