OUTDOOR NEWS:  TURKEY HUNTERS, are you out listening to the turkeys strutting around and do not forget that this weekend is for the youth hunt and first period of the spring hunt. Gobblers have been seen strutting for hen turkeys in open fields, in prefect timing for the youth hunt this weekend, April 15-16 and for the start of the first period on April 19th. Hunters still looking for a leftover turkey permit, can check availability on the DNR website, keyword “turkey”.  County Deer Advisory Committee meetings will be held this week through-out the state to finalize 2017 deer season recommendations. Manitowoc’s CDAC meeting will be on Wednesday April 19th at Viking Bow & Gun club starting at 6 pm. All Deer Hunters who care about their deer hunting seasons and the amount of deer we can kill are expected to at least show some interest in helping the committee make the right decision for our county. Show some support for the sport you talk about mostly throughout the year. This meeting is a Public Hearing, so it’s open to the Public, not just deer hunters. Everyone is welcome to attend.

FRIENDS OF THE BRANCH RIVER WATERSHED will be holding one of their annual Brat Fry at Rob’s Market on Menasha Ave. next to the county airport on April 29th. This is a perfect time for the public is show its support for a group that is working so hard to clean up the Branch River watershed and they have a wonderful program to educate our youth about the outdoors. They are a totally family group, as everyone pitches in to work, from the youngest child to the college aged child, they all work as a family team. Upcoming events they have planned are April 15th is the Dodge Preserve Clean Up Day, call Al @ 920-901-5166 or meet at the Whitelaw Convenience Center at 9:30am. April 22nd is the groups tree planting day, Sunday April 23rd is an event at the Manitowoc Public Library at 12:30pm with the Fox Valley Herp Club in Room B and C. They plan on offering Cravings Cookies after the reptile show. This program is sponsored by the Lakeshore Dental and the Manitowoc Public Library. On May 20th is the bridge crossing clean up day. They plan on meeting at the Taus Town Hall at 9:30am and the Rain Date is the 21st at 1pm.  Summer Family Event date is June 10th at the Dodge Preserve. MISHICOT SPORTSMAN CLUB SPRING ARCHERY TOURNMENT is coming on April 29th and 30th  from 8 am to 4 pm at the Club’s property on Jambo Creek.  All archers are welcome to come and shoot. Food and Refreshments are available to everyone. All youth who shoot in the tournament will have their name entered into a drawing for a new bow to be given away at the Fall Archery Tournament. (Ages of the youth must be 16 years and under to win) They have a choice of either a Barnett Raptor Crossbow or a Mission Craze II youth bow. Drawing will be on August 28th at the Fall Tournament.
