Roger's Outdoor Notes

FISHING NEWS:  Well the fishing on the Fox River this past week was really good with over 100 boats on the river. I witness three pontoons near the river’s mouth fishing by the yacht club and power plant. Most of the boats were near the Hwy 172 bridge to Voyageur Park. Fishing in Southeastern Wis, the fishermen were getting catches of Coho Salmon and brown and rainbow trout near the Milwaukee Harbor and in Oak Creek. If you are fishing near the Oak Creek area, browns are being taken by just about everyone. Of course, now that the snow and colder weather came back, who will know what has been going on down there this weekend. During the warmer weather, walleyes were being taken on Lake Wisconsin. Anglers at Geano Beach reported several pike and 30 fish registered at a tournament last week Saturday. Along Door County, anglers fishing in Little Sturgeon were reporting about 14-16 inches of ice, but the warmer temps since then, has broken up most of the ice. It’s no longer safe to be on any ice. For the third day the Sturgeon Spearers did not report any fish speared, mainly because no one is spearing anymore due to the ice being gone. So it pretty much ends the 2017 Sturgeon Spearing Season. Totals will be coming out later on this week. Fishermen have been on the East and West Twin Rivers this past week, I haven’t heard of anything being taken yet, but I have to hand it to the younger boys I see down there trying to catch something. Those boys are the true fishermen of the future. Good Luck boys!
