Natural
resources students at Pulaski Area High School put their design and
construction skills to use and built a bear trap to assist DNR in responding to
nuisance bears.
This is no small feat. The students
designed and built a large, culvert-style trap made from aluminum tubing
mounted on a trailer frame with a pressure plate and spring-activated door.
Such a trap is worth thousands of dollars.
DNR
wildlife staff will pick up the trap at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Pulaski
High School, providing a photo and interview opportunity for the media. Reporters and photographers
should check in at the Pulaski High School front desk prior to 9 a.m.
More
information about bears expanding their range in Wisconsin – and how wildlife professionals are managing black
bears – will be available at this event, as will the students and their
teachers.
Pulaski
High School is located at:
1040 S St Augustine St,
Pulaski (25 minutes NW of Green Bay; 45 min NNE of Appleton)
