WISCONSIN WATERFOWL ASSN. NEWSLETTER FOR JUNE, 2018

Summer Brings Shoots, Golf Outings, Projects and More to WWA
Don Kirby, Executive Director, 262.224.4949

Hello Roger P,

Wow, with the hot weather lately, we've gone from a late winter to early summer. I stopped by the Abrams project earlier this week (see Peter's notes below), to review the mowing work done by our partners at Pro Plots. This work was originally intended & scouted in March, for completion in early April, for possible controlled burning preparation later that month. Unfortunately, it's surprisingly hard to mow, no matter how big your tractor is, with 30" of fresh snow! Never the less, the work has progressed, albeit later than planned, and will still pay good benefits for the habitat, and we'll see about that burn next spring before things green up again.

Speaking of early starts, the Calendar Committee completed their work, and the data files are at the printer, I expect we'll see a final proof any day now. We're a couple weeks ahead of last year, so we should be in very good shape, to be able to start distributing this awesome raffle (and powerhouse fundraiser) shortly after the Independence Day holiday week. Meanwhile, you  don't need to feel left out: there's the Chevy Heaven: Great Hunting Truck Raffle you can participate in, while the Calendar is still getting cranked up. The truck will get drawn, at our farewell to summer celebration: The Hunters' Eve Bash, on August 30th, the Thursday night before Labor Day weekend. Make your plans today, it'll be here before you know it.

This month features two great events you can join in, as well: The Madison Scramble golf outing, at The Oaks in Cottage Grove on Tuesday the 19th, and the Waukesha County Sporting Clays Shoot, 3rd of 6 in this year's Series, in Pewaukee on Sunday the 24th. Check them out, they're great reasons to be outside, enjoying the weather, while helping support your Association, and maybe hone your skills a bit!

Finally, don't forget to mark your calendars for August 10-11-12. That's when we'll move our 2nd WWA Decoy Carving Contest & Exhibition, which debuted alongside the Federal Duck Stamp Competition in Stevens Point last summer, down to the Richfield Cabela's, where it will join our State Duck & Goose Calling Championships. The combination of these two events should make Richfield the place to be in Wisconsin for waterfowlers, for that weekend, for sure! We'll be making our formal "release" soon, but you can say you saw it here, first. Want to see what the decoy contest is all about? Dan Small & the Outdoors Wisconsin crew covered it: the episode from February repeats again TOMORROW on Milwaukee PBS at 9:00 a.m. and on the state public TV network at 10:30 a.m. Or, you can watch it here:

Thanks to all of our volunteers - they make your Association happen!
See you on the water, Don
